  • Joy - Life is rarely easy, but when you wake up in the morning, you have a choice in how you face the day. Above all else, I believe in choosing joy. There is a song, which I consider my mantra, that says “I do it for the joy it brings / Because I’m a joyful girl / Because the world owes me nothing / And we owe each other the world” (“Joyful Girl” by Ani DiFranco)

  • Authenticity – I believe in always working toward being your true Self. I am responsible for bringing my authentic self to every person in every situation. My expectation is that those I work with have the same responsibility.

  • Community – My community helped to build me up and support me. I value building strong communities that will continue to support our youth.

  • Courage – “Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway” – Robert Anthony. I have had to be courageous in the face of great diversity and have always found myself much better for it.

  • Creativity – Outside-of-the-box thinking is what changes the world; to not just take what is handed to you for face value but to see and understand things from different perspectives. Creativity also allows me to express myself in different ways.

  • Helping others – I deeply believe in doing all you can in any way you can for others. This is not just for the less fortunate or through a charity, it can be as simple as holding the door open for someone or giving encouraging words to a co-worker who is having a tough day.

  • Knowledge – I never want to stop learning and growing. Having knowledge is wonderful, but the desire to know more is what moves me forward. Also I try to seek out those with more knowledge than myself; those who are willing to share and expand my world.

  •  Love – Love is everything! Love is the “who”, the “what”, and, most importantly, the “why” of who we are. For me, it always comes back to love: loving what I do, loving who I am around, loving life, and, most importantly, loving my true Self. I believe if we approach any conflict from a place of love, we will see it more clearly. I am not saying this is easy, and it is a new approach to me, but it has worked when I have done it. I believe it is what the world needs right now.
